At PitchParrot, we use the following formula for all of our explanimations:
A 120 word script equals about 1 minute of animation.
Of course, it’s certainly possible to cram more words into one minute. However, the speaking tempo as well as the length of individual words are factors that have a large influence on the final length of an animation.
Why is this the ideal length for an animation?

This is a chart of viewer retention for videos of different lengths. As you can see, as the video gets longer and longer, the viewer retention declines. Videos that are up to 2 minutes long have the best retention rates.
Keep the script short and sweet
This is why it is necessary to keep your scripts short and to the point. By setting these wordcount limitations for yourself, you are forced to get to the point of your story as quickly and clearly as possible.
